It doesnt matter who you play for in the summer if your high school coaches has ties to college coaches. Spalding has college connections so spending thousands of dollars in the summer to play on a showcase team that promises exposure is pointless. Dont waste the money and time traveling to tournaments where scouts arent watching your team. Palumbo does a great job putting kids into appropriate colleges. His word is reputable. Same for several other MIAA coaches.
At the end of the day ask yourself which coach your prospective college coach should call? Your summer/showcase coach or your high school coach? If you rather have them call your HS coach, dont worry about where you are playing in the summer. Play, but focus on development and training.

Top 8 Private schools and their coaches. College coaches will surely call the prospective players HS coach if they're recruiting an MIAA player. Some of these names speak for themselves in accomplishments and reputation. Back to original post, why wouldnt you want to stay close to home during the summer and ensure your varsity spot in the spring. Only reason would be if your HS didnt have a close relationship with a summer organization.
1. Chris Rodriguez - Georgetown Prep 2. Larry Sheets - Gilman 3. Joe Palumbo - Spalding 4. Anthony Sosnoskie - Bishop McNamara 5. Phil Kraska - MSJ 6. Tim Park - Good COunsel 7. Darrion Siler - JC 8. Lou Eckerl - Calvert Hall

40% of the starting lineup this year at Spalding were kids who didn't play on API. It's the MIAA which is the deepest and best conference hands down in MD. To have the success Spalding has had under Joe I can butture you that he's playing the best 9 day in and day out.
Also, to play fall/summer ball for your eventual HS coach should be a no brainer. Unless you have tons of cash and want to stroke a $3-$4K check to the national program teams. And BTW, all these teams calling themselves National team. They aren't, you are just local teams. The big Orgs have 1 National team and all these saps below it pay the airfare and hotels for that "1" National team. Any team calling themselves National has major issues. If you're a National team then you will have 18 D1 commits on said team. Otherwise you are just a team. See how well the 18 different 5 Star teams do in GA this July. The "National team" will push to win it. The other ones will get their doors blown of most of the time. I've seen it. Lots of $$$ to pay to play on a normal travel team.

If any team makes bracket play at PBR Nationals or WWBA's consider it a big deal. Local kids should be saving their money and playing for teams that practice and play in their area. Especially if theyre already an MIAA player. Several showcase organizations have branched out to our region and thats nice and all, but make sure they arent selling you national exposure and taking a hefty check with outrageous uniform costs. Showcase teams here may have one or two players that advance up and play for the "National" team when they are juniors and seniors. It all depends on the guy running the regional program and his relationship with the GA guys (top showcases run out of GA). To the parent asking the question... go play for API and get your son in front of the Spalding coaches. He will learn their system and style of play. The MIAA is the best baseball on the east coast and teams have to be at their best to win day in and day out. If your son is good enough to play college baseball, then Palumbo and Co will find a home for him. Same with the majority of other MIAA teams. Save your money for trips to college prospect camps in the summer and fall. If you are still hesitant, attend an MIAA game in the Spring with two pitchers throwing 90 plus. There will be Pro and College scouts in attendance with a special section marked off behind home plate for them. Same environment as a highlight game at WWBA's but with two local powerhouses and driving distance from your front door.
