Do you owe it to your coach to let him know you plan on trying out for other teams?

[br What if your kid was counting on playing for his current team then got cut after not going to other teams tryouts? Honestly every situation is different.Ideally you would notify coach if trying out elsewhere. Sometimes you need to put your kids best interest ahead of other factors.

One thing I've learned is that you should be open and forthright to the extent is does not harm your child. Honestly does not necessarily mean full disclosure in all situations. For instance, most coaches are not going to tell you during the Spring that they're going to cut your kid at the Fall tryout if he's on the borderline and a better kid shows up. Its should be understood though in travel ball. Same thing goes for parents looking for a better situation. If your kid is a star (from an objective standpoint of course) its much easier to be open about things, because its easier to go back if things don't go as planned.

We know that it’s only a game and the kids are there to have fun. Change teams if you are the best player on the team and that’s about it.
