So many teams across all age groups having tryouts again. Is it just me or is there a lot more teams looking to add a couple kids mid-year higher than usual. Any idea why that’d be?

It is way more that usual. Mostly because too many dads are starting up their own teams. Also add some of the big named companies want to take over. 5star and Marucci to just add a couple. Then add A, B and C teams for almost all teams. I can't even name an organization that only has 1 per age group. Only a hand full of them for each age group are competitive. The rest is a slightly better rec team.

Sprinkle in the effect Covid has had on certain programs too. REC ball is folding all over the area, and being replaced by mediocre "travel" teams. Basically paying $500 to $1000 to play on a glorified REC team that plays against other B teams, while trying to avoid A teams. Almost like de facto REC ball.
On another Note, I don't see how Marucci survives without owning fields or having their own indoor workout facility like Rawlings and API. The company is not going to subsidize the local program to the point that the incentive attracts parents. The teams with staying power are the ones that own or at least control their own fields, or can raise money with a workout facility.

Maryland is a watered down pile of DogShlt. Had atleast 10 new 12u teams formed this fall.
