It seems that any team that is using county fields, anywhere in the state is at a huge disadvantage. Looks like teams that are not using county (recs and parks) fields are able to still practice and possibly play.
Wonder how this will affect tryouts in the fall? Will more parents switch to private organizations for a chance to play in the fall ? It has been reported that fall high school sports are probably not going to happen.
Big year for some kids and teams especially teams getting ready for Cooperstown, or the 13-14u kid going into high school the next year.
How will teams that are on county recs and parks fields even have tryouts?
A lot to think about going into next season for sure !!

I can’t see going until next Spring to play again. I will certainly be looking for a team with a private field for my son. He is going to be 13u next season.
Does anyone know what teams have private fields in the area? We are willing to drive to play. A friend of mine mentioned API, but other than their indoor facility they still use county and high school fields to my knowledge.
Help!!!

County owned fields will open up. Jumping ship and looking for a team with a private field is a knee jerk reaction. States are starting to open back up and baseball will be played in June. Stop drinking the kool-aid

They are saying schools won’t open til January in Maryland. I don’t see a shot that baseball will be played in June in Maryland unless you play for a private organization. Severna park and lakeshore have canned their travel and rec teams for the season.
Private orgs are already practicing and preparing for what’s left of a season. Out of state tournaments are a go down south nothing up north.
Private orgs include: Api rba (only 12u this year that I know of, Gambrills, Olney) sure there may be others but that’s all that come to mind.
I don’t know if it’s a knee jerk reaction when your kid is facing high school next year and this fall may be the only chance they get to be in front of private school coaches)

How many teams have private fields? HCYP has their own complex and to my knowledge they are still shut down as of now. OBGC has a complex but are they allowing them to be used while their county in a lockdown? I can see a parent wanting to get their kid on a team that has a private field so they can play just not sure how many of these exist.
Are parents comfortable traveling to other states right now just so their kid can play baseball?

You need to fundraiser but depending on the health/ scientific developments 100 plus teams from around the country might be a no go next year too

Permits won’t be issued for county fields in AA County until Phase 3. Phase 3 projection is Nov. 2020-Jan. 2021 because Phase 2 will be at least 4-6 months. Phase 2 could be here by late June.
Look for a private team. Not a knee jerk reaction. Sorry to the coaches of teams like SP, Bowie, Lake Shore, EYO, etc. but this is the new reality.
I agree with Oldtimer. Cooperstown will be cancelled in 2021 too. Kids from all 50 States staying in close proximity to each other, sharing bathrooms and showers, etc...is just asking for it. I can see them playing it safe again.

Not many private teams or fields In Maryland. Most fields are controlled by a county Parks and Recs dept. Is it true team insurance is somehow tied to the county too? I’ve heard that makes it impossible to even try to go to an open state to play.
So some people have guessed baseball would be included in phase 2 and some people say phase 3. Does anyone have real information on that?

Private organizations (that I know of) to look into if you want to play this Fall-
Gambrills Athletic Club (AA County- they also have Dirtbags Showcase for 14u) Olney (Mont. County) HCYP (Howard County) Maryland Crush (Baltimore County) RBA (if rising 13u—Carroll County)

Some were hoping phase 2 would bring back baseball, but Park and Rec will not be issuing permits until phase 3. So jealous of teams that are able to get work in right now.
My son is rising 14u and I will be having him tryout for the Gambrills Dirtbags showcase team in July. They have a private field.

He also said need to look at cdc guidelines for youth sports so it could mean practice only right now , possibly local competition in near future but travel still long way away we will have to see EDIT- just read the guidance this would apply to practice with a 10 person (includes coach I believe) maximum hey - it’s a start

So it’s knee jerk but private teams can play and teams using county fields can only practice?
Advantage to private orgs bottom line
