Dear Coach,
No one on your team wants a guest player when everyone is healthy....

For everyone approcahing 13-14u, having guest players is just part of the process. Especially at 14u when high school ball is a factor in the early Spring. Are you afraid a player from your team may guest for said team and like them better? Insecure much?? LOL
So funny, the Gambrills haters on this site. Get a life dudes and get off their jock. No, I don't have a kid on that team (he's 15) but I know them well.
Name another team in MD that is trying to do what they're doing. How many teams around here are taking their boys to GA, AL, FL, NV, AZ to see how they stack up?
How many other teams have the #1 high school infielder in MD working with their kids on a daily basis?
Yes, they have Steve who is very opinionated and loud at times, but he cares, which I can't hold against him. Keep the hate flowing, it dosent matter, I know most of them don't even look at this BS and anyone on here looking for a team sucks anyway. Haha

Good teams make sure they have 9-11 players that are 14u 8th graders instead of a mixed group of 14u 8th and 9th graders. Guest players is never ok when you have families that pay fees. Good organization state specifically to their families that guest players are not allowed unless absolutely necessary. Are these guest players paying fees to the organization or are they playing under your already established families fees?

I can't speak to the fees part, like I said I am not on the team. If a team wants to add some bonus arms to compete with the bigger organizations that carry 15+ kids on the roster, any parent that truly gets it would not have an issue with that. The parents that have issues with guest players are often the ones who are insecure about their own kid's ability and see the guest as a threat. If they feel that way they are not on the right team.
Now if a guest plays several weekends and dosent pay anthing, yeah that is a problem. But for a guest to come for a weekend to help a team at no cost, that has been very common (unless your team sucks and nobody wants to waste their time guesting for them).
We will just have to disagree on this one. I look at it like this. We should ALL be representing MARYLAND baseball in these out of state tourneys. WE ALL should want every team from MD to represent well and be happy when teams from MD compete abroad. But you don't want to do that because you're petty, and thats ok. Keep bringing the hate, it's fun to watch, although it is getting to be a little sad and I am worried about you.

"I am worried about you"
Please not another one of these guys!
Maryland baseball? Yeah that's an easy excuse to use. 9/10 travel teams in Maryland do not play in big enough tournaments to say they are "doing it for Maryland."
Bringing guest players in to help win a tournament that is taking playing time away from players that have paid serious cash is wrong. No excuses about it. Just admit that you care more about winning and you do about development. Who gives a if you win a 13u, 14u tournament? It's youth baseball and I promise you their future HS coaches (I'm a HS baseball coach that wishes to stay anonymous) do not care about your youth baseball trophies.

Don’t sign up for tournaments you have NO business in if you do not have the arms on your team.

Bringing in guest players because you don't have pitching or whatever position it is, is a way of telling your current players they aren't good enough to get the job done. Hell of a confidence boost to a 14 year old kid.

I am going to stay nameless as my son is not on Gambrills but I am friends with several parents on their team, and also play against Gambrills.
Last weekend they had 9 players and picked up one kid from another local team that wasn't playing (GORC). I don't see the issue at all, if someone gets sick or injured they are up a creek without a paddle. The crazy world we live in with covid you never know what may happen. Word is RBA has lost a player for this weekend due to covid…..
Has anyone taken the time to look at the tournament Gambrills is playing this weekend? The tournament layout is the craziest i have ever seen. A team could play a total of 9 games if they you not the 1-4 seed in only 2 days. Almost any team outside the 1-4 seed has to play 4 games on Saturday alone. I don't see this as their coaches telling their players " We don't have confidence in you". I see this as their coaches are actually concerned about not over throwing any of their pitchers. We could all see the headlines for next week now... Gambrills throws 3-4 pitchers 120 plus pitches in a weekend.
Then we have the other end of it where Gambrills carries 11 kids. What about teams that carry 13-15 kids. So player B loses an inning because of a guest player. What would player B lose all season if the team carried 13-15 kids compared to 11? So everyone still pays a load of money and get even less innings all year as compared to 1 or 2 tournaments.
If you have been around this age group for any period of time, everyone wants to hate on what ever team is winning the most. If you have ever taken the time to sit down and talk baseball with the hated "Steve", you will see the dude knows the game. Yea he can be the loudest most obnoxious person on the field, but everyone I've spoken to who actually knows the guy speaks as to how much the kids listen to and respect him. You also hear how good of a coach he actually is and cares about every kid on the field not just his kid.
As in a prior post someone was very keen in their observation as to RH and BW. Having not personally played with 1 and not the other I will reserve my comments, but say its always the ones that bounce from team to team on a yearly or every other year that seem to be the problem not the actual teams.

The 12u GS coach allowed multiple kids to “ Guest Play” without paying. Look how that turned out for them
