Tough to rank teams before try-outs and the annual summer migration of players to new teams is just about to begin. Especially at this age when you have kids in HS and some still kin MS. If you have a team with this mix you have a tough decision to make, do the 8th grades wait to play until the 9th finish with HS ball or split them. 1-South river will look to add to their core guys as they have over the last few years. Note-They had success at a National tournament a few weeks back 2-Delmarva's roster changes every year. (Heard top player moving to a national team) 3- White Marsh roster is typically stable so they could continue their regional success. Also not a lot of teams in their area to move to. 4- Olney/Evo's roster is bound to change with the name change. And going to a more showcase format 5-Williamsport Angels are the same as White Marsh, not a lot of options and kids tend to stay. 6-Gambrills is rumored to be losing key players but who knows. Their roster is also bound to change. 7. Rawlings sporting goods has been improving overhear and attracting better players. 8. Don't know about BCCC 9. Tide might lose several players as well. 10.API 13u- Don't know Hopefully with this site top 15 coaches can discuss tournaments they will be attending and several of these teams can meet in the fall.

I figure there will be a ton of moving around, but just wanted to create a new thread for the rising 14-year-olds. Once everything settles down roster-wise then we can get a better look at teams. My son, Adam Hicks, is one of the boys moving out of Gambrills. Adam will be playing for his tentative HS coach Gary Gubbings at PAL. Not sure what the other boys at Gambrills will be doing.
I agree with the analysis of the top 10 teams. I have heard South River and Tide will combine 8th graders and play for a month or two until the 9th graders are free of HS ball, then they will separate into their former teams for late Spring and Summer ball. Excellent idea IMO.

PAL was 28-6 on the 13u season with some very good wins. Additionally, below was one of my first rankings of 13u back in April. PAL has always been in the top 15. Additionally, they are 1-0-1 vs Rawlings A’s Black.
1. Olney 2. Dig In 3. Gambrills Aces 4. Calvert Tide 5. Mid-Maryland United 6. HCYP Blue 7. Burtonsville 8. South River (Green) 9. White Marsh 10. Mid-Atlantic Shocker 11. Hickory Hornets 12. Mid-Atlantic Red Sox 13. PAL 14. Rawlings A’s 15. Lake Shore

The win over Rawlings was an exhibition game and not sure who their good wins were against(API ,Dulaney?) but given their record and that they won a Ripken i would agree they were a top 15 team.

Thanks for the clarification, and this would make PAL vs Rawlings H2H series 0-0-1. There are a few other common opponents that keep PAL within striking distance of the top 10. Rawlings A’s Black win over White Marsh is also exhibition right? Supposedly several White Marsh players were MIA. I know exhibition games technically don’t count, but they are good indicators. PAL has several H2H matchups with teams within my top 25 list, as well as common opponent criteria over a few top 10. However, they can’t seem to gain that H2H over API. Off topic a tad, I have heard White Marsh is keeping their entire roster together for 14u. South River-green has gained a few good additionally players that will keep them on top.

The Williamsport Angels are a solid team but I would reconsider placing them 5th. They finished 7th out of 12 teams in the Tristate Travel Baseball League this spring. According the league website, they were 9-9. The league is comprised of teams from MD, Pa and Martinsburg. Against MD teams, they were 1-1 against BCC, 0-3 against MMU, 1-3 against Mid Atlantic Red Sox and 1-0 against Frederick Hustlers.

These rankings will looking much different come Sept when the age group changes.
FYI MD Royals (shaowcase team) split with a very good White Marsh this past weekend. IMO White Marsh is one of the best 13-14u teams in the state.

The MD Royals are completely loaded. I have never seen that much quality pitching/players on one team at this age group.(I know because I am from WM and played them this past weekend). Quality hitters from top to bottom as well. We were happy to have at least beaten them on Saturday but I think overall if this Royals team stays together at 14/15U they would most likely have a great amount of success.

I think the idea is to bring the players from the Royals together after the spring season for a few summer/fall tournaments to showcase the boys talents. There will be a few changes to the rankings once everything settles. Some teams have new players and some teams lost a bunch.

Williamsport is entirely too high... Also, The Mid Atlantic Red Sox picked up some very talented kids and will move up in the rankings pretty quickly.
