We just got finished pool play games and wanted to know if this is normal.
Some teams batted everyone on their roster and some only batted nine.
Is this normal?

What age group?
Think it also depends on the type of tournament and the type of team.

What age group? Think it also depends on the type of tournament and the type of team. What age should teams do this? What tournament is it acceptable? It depends on developing kids or not. Bat 9 and get kids in on occasion. It is the way the HS game is played. It’s the way we all played as kids. Kids don’t like it? Get better.

I’ve seen teams as young as 8U bat 9 on a Saturday. To me it’s crazy as the same bottom 2-3 kids get very limited at bats. Theres no real chance for those few to get better, or even prove themselves. When they do get the chance they are probably pressing so bad because they know if they don’t succeed, they probably won’t get another shot any time soon. When your 11U or younger bat the team, if a kid is so weak he can’t hit every Sunday then you probably shouldn’t of picked him up and there’s no PO’s except for the extreme rarity under 13U, and even at 13U a PO is very rare unless your picking a kid up for a tournament, come 14U more and more players are realizing their strengths and weaknesses and focusing on what can help them get on the diamond come high school.
If your a super competitive team at 12U in a big tournament and bat 9-10 in a semi or championship game here and there ok, cool.
This is a topic that so many disagree on. If your the coach you run your team the way you want to run it, just be upfront and transparent when you pick the team and lay the expectations early so parents don’t come running when their kid isn’t hitting cause you can say I told you this before you accepted a spot on the team. Probably still won’t save you the headache but you will atleast have a leg to stand on, as no one can accept their son isn’t the one hitting.

Bat 9- teach lil Johnny that riding the bench is part of the game and if you do not like it, get better. Isn't learning all aspects of the game part of their development too???

If you're not batting all kids 12 & under you're just trophy chasing. cannot claim to be in it for the kids or development

No substitute for live at bats. If you arent batting kids at age 8,9,10,11 you're not focused on developing players you are only damaging the confidence

If you arent batting kids at age 8,9,10,11 you're not focused on developing players you are only damaging the confidence Bat the roster Same kid bats last for most of the season Blame coach for lack of development Take ownership in your own kids development. If they are batting last ask them what they need to work on to get better. If they are playing XBOX and on their phone 8 hours a day then it’s time to look in the mirror. Who cares more about development? Player Coach Parent
