I wonder how many college coaches and pro scouts get hyped up on a player because his bunting ability is plus plus....
In my opinion situational bunting is ok. I want to win just as bad as the next guy. When I see teams bunting excessively it signals to me that the coaches dont believe their hitters can hit. That in itself is sad. Teach your kids to hit.
Now I also agree that it is the defenses responsibility to defend the bunt.
Thats my 2 cents. I grew up on the Earl Weaver philosophy, play for the 3 run home run.
