Brian
I think the big reason is so many local programs begin to fold at or after the 13-14U season is because of high school ball. This will become a huge issue for many 13U teams after this year depending on how their team is buttembled. How many 2025 compared to 2026 graduation year players each team has.
I think this is one thing many showcase programs (5Star-Dirtbags) and API does well is start putting together teams by graduation year and not age after the 13U season. Steve the owner of API has been smart enough to work with private high school programs to play under the API umbrella for summer ball. This is so smart as it brings nationally ranked players under the API name, building the API name and brand recognition. Many parents don’t realize that API Cavs is Spaldings high school team with some additions and some subtractions, they just see that many of the best players in the state play there. In return API gets an influx of parents bringing their kids there to play as they see the best play there, IE Josh Moylan Noah Mrotek Ethan McNally Travis Garnett Eddie Sargent Evan Selmer, the list goes on.
I see more Baseball programs like Ripken and little league who have changed the date of birth from May 1 to August 31 to reflect graduation year. Maybe more tournaments and programs need to start looking at making this the norm. We shouldn’t allow a kid to only get 1 year on the big diamond before high school.
Parents need to stop worrying about their kid being a beast at 12u because he has a May 1 date of birth and worry about getting him on the big field to be as best prepared for high school.
We have a kid who just turned 12 in August. He more than holds his own and performs. He could go play 12U but what would that do for him in the long run when he is a 2026 graduate. Challenge these young men you may be shocked at what they can do when you don’t allow them to accept mediocrity.

Brian Who is Curlz? What program did these kids come From? Seems that API gets stronger as the age groups go up as the present the showcase style program for older kids compared to most the local organizations that most of us belong to. API definitely can play small ball and does it well. Api older teams are terrible showcase program for older kids. I took my son out of that program last year because the coach wouldn't travel out of his 90 mile radius. Same is true with the coaches now. Many of the best players leave and go play at other places. The older api team is pretty much comprised of all Spaulding players but the best Spaulding kids don't play there cause they know the exposure is simply not there. Ed I don’t know who your sons coach was and not willing to travel more than 90 miles is a joke. Many of the good players do go and play with other showcase teams, but they also come back play at api time to time. Many parents don’t understand true showcase baseball and what’s involved. But they do see Spalding playing at API or Indian Creeks coach having a team there, so to many parents they see the indoor dome and private school Coaches there and think this must be the place to be.

My kid will only get one year on the big diamond I just hope he can catch up to all of these stud youth baseball players in high school

There were some solid teams in last weeks USSSA Tournament. Loudoun South, US Elite Md O's Tide, Minutemen Gambrills, MAS and others... Crazy Pool Play games! we lost twice to the Loudoun South team, well coached team and solid players. They were in the LLWS last year as the southeastern region champs. They had a kid that just shut us down in the last inning during pool play, in a tight 4-3 game. The next day in tournament play we just pooped the bed in our game against them... in the Championship game same kid pitched 6 innings with 2 hits, 1 BB and 15 K's against Md O's who beat Gambrills twice over the weekend.
The big field changes everything, sometimes your the windshield and some times your the bug!
On another note, if you played on field one at GAC Saturday or Sunday... those umps were horrible... Ive never heard an ump call a pitch a ball, then as the kid is running to 1st say "no, it was a strike!"

Well I guess API met their match losing to Olney 6-4 and Gambrills 7-2.
After a big weekend last weekend they collapsed this weekend.

Most of the DE parents don’t agree with the baby momma thing either. It doesn’t define us all or our kids. Good game today

So I heard the loud mouth from Elite Was on display again in Howard County. If you weren’t such a racist you would realize he doesn’t really speak English and all he is doing is cheering!! I don’t know about you but when I have a fly on the wall in my house being annoying I get a fly swatter and swatt the hell out of it!!!

So are you saying someone should swatt the hell out of the DE loudmouth? Id say you dont need to speak other languages to realize he thinks he is an umpire and isnt just cheering.
